TL;DR

Sources tell Al-Arabiya that the first round of direct US-Iran technical talks will be held Friday in Zurich, Switzerland. The talks are expected to cover legal aspects of sanctions removal, Iranian frozen assets in Qatar, and the nuclear file, while informal discussions may also address Lebanon and Hezbollah.

01 · THE DISPATCH

According to sources cited by Al-Arabiya, the first round of direct technical talks between the United States and Iran is scheduled for Friday in Zurich, Switzerland. The discussions will focus on legal aspects of sanctions removal, as well as Iranian frozen assets in Qatar and the nuclear file. Informal side meetings may also address Lebanon and Hezbollah.

This comes after a day of conflicting signals: on Thursday morning, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei cast doubt on the Friday meeting, saying it was being reconsidered, as The Zioneer reported at 11:20. Earlier reports had confirmed Geneva as the venue. Al-Arabiya's sources now indicate Zurich and affirm the meeting is proceeding. The talks follow months of indirect exchanges and multiple rounds of negotiation positioning, with a potential final-stage deal reportedly under discussion.

As of this report, there has been no official confirmation from the White House or the State Department. Iran's position has been that any agreement must include full access to frozen assets and that Israeli operations in Lebanon would constitute a breach of US commitments.
