The patient developed a fever after returning from the affected region and sought medical treatment. Laboratory tests are currently underway to confirm or rule out the diagnosis, with results expected within 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
This is the latest in a series of suspected Ebola cases in Israel since mid-June, during which the country has been screening travelers returning from central Africa. In June, two suspected cases were reported — one at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa and another at Soroka itself — with lab tests underway at the time. The Ministry of Health has maintained standard isolation protocols for each case. The current patient is the third suspected case reported by The Zioneer this year, following the June incidents and a suspected case in Glasgow, UK, in late June.
As part of its ongoing monitoring, the Health Ministry has been distributing protective equipment and issuing travel advisories against non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, as The Zioneer reported in June. The ministry has instructed returning travelers to self-isolate and contact medical authorities if they develop fever or symptoms within 21 days of return.
The diagnosis remains a suspicion only. No confirmation of the Ebola virus has been made in Israel this year. The current patient's test results are pending, and the Health Ministry has not released further details on the patient's condition.
