Three teenagers were swept away at the Palmachim beach in Rishon LeZion. Two were rescued and one was located lifeless with the help of a helicopter, according to reports.
Relatives of a 15-year-old boy who was swept out to sea at Palmachim beach in Rishon LeZion were informed tonight that he was found dead, after what began as a widespread search operation. Rescue services located the teen among the rocks in critical condition; medics performed CPR on the scene and evacuated him to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, where resuscitation efforts ultimately failed and his death was confirmed by ZAKA at around 19:10. Two other teenagers who were swept away alongside him had been rescued unharmed earlier in the evening, police and MDA reported.
The story unfolded from the early evening: at around 17:55 initial reports said three teens were caught in a current off an unmarked section of Palmachim beach, with two rescued safely and a search launched for the third. By the same hour, Fire and Rescue Services divers located the boy in critical condition among the rocks, and he was evacuated while undergoing CPR. Corroboration grew rapidly — first N12 reported the evacuation to Wolfson, then police confirmed the find, followed by MDA and Fire and Rescue Services updates, and finally ZAKA's on-record confirmation of death and the conclusion of search efforts at 19:10.
The incident took place at an unmarked beach, a type of location that has been the scene of several drowning emergencies reported by The Zioneer this season. As The Zioneer reported in late June, two 21-year-old men drowned at Jerusalem Beach in Rishon LeZion on a Friday evening and were hospitalized in moderate-serious condition, and earlier that same day a 16-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man required evacuation after drowning at an unmarked beach near Beit Yanai. The desk has also previously reported a man rescued in critical condition near a Tel Aviv beach on June 10.
