A man about 40 was trapped in the wreckage and was extricated by rescue crews suffering head and limb injuries; a woman about 50 sustained head and chest trauma, the rescue organization said. Both were treated on site with bandages and splints before being evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center's trauma unit in Ashkelon.
The crash follows a string of accidents on Route 35 in recent weeks, including a collision near Beit Guvrin on June 15 that left three people hospitalized in moderate condition, and a crash near the Tarkumiya checkpoint on June 7 that injured six. The circumstances of tonight's incident remain under investigation; no other vehicles were reported involved and no additional casualties are known at this time.
