The USGS registered a 4.1-magnitude earthquake in Lebanon Thursday evening, attributed to the IDF's destruction of Hezbollah underground infrastructure, according to The Zioneer. The seismic event follows the demolition of the Ali al-Taher ridge command complex, the largest underground bunker network dismantled by Israeli forces.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) officially registered a 4.1-magnitude earthquake in Lebanon at approximately 22:00 Jerusalem time Thursday, confirming that the seismic event was caused by the IDF's ongoing demolition of Hezbollah underground infrastructure, according to The Zioneer. The confirmation follows Lebanese channels earlier reporting the quake at 21:11 Jerusalem and attributing it to an explosion at the Ali al-Taher ridge, the largest underground bunker network dismantled by Israeli forces.
The Zioneer reported at 21:11 Jerusalem that the IDF had completed the destruction of the Ali al-Taher ridge complex, with 1,100 tons of explosives used to destroy a tunnel on the ridge. Additional reports at the same time detailed that the tunnels contained Iranian-made missiles and drones, and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the completion of the security zone in southern Lebanon following the destruction. The USGS confirmation now adds an internationally recognized seismological record to the event, upgrading the initial Lebanese attribution.
The systematic destruction of Hezbollah's underground network has been ongoing since June, as previously reported by The Zioneer. The Ali al-Taher complex, built over two decades with Iranian funding and planning, was designed as a base to invade the Galilee and had direct observation and fire coverage over Metula and Kiryat Shmona. Israeli authorities have not issued any statements regarding the earthquake, and no casualties have been reported in connection with the seismic event.
