This is the fifth consecutive Saturday that Haredi protesters have gathered outside Cafe Basmeta in central Jerusalem, which remains open on Shabbat. Police forces were dispatched and set up barriers at the scene, with clashes documented by photographer Oren Ben Hakon, as reported by N12 journalist Inbar Twizer.
On Friday, journalist Tamari reported expected escalation of the Saturday protests. The demonstrations continued Saturday, with police presence and confrontations.
In response, Democrats chairman Maj. Gen. (res.) Yair Golan said Saturday that 'Jerusalem belongs to everyone' and that 'no group will dictate by force how life in the public space will look,' according to N12 reporter Dvir Jabara.
