Basil Sweid
Master Sergeant (Res.) Basil Sweid (1994–2026) was an IDF reservist from the Druze town of Peki'in who fell during operational activity in the northern sector during the 2026 conflict.
Master Sergeant (Res.) Basil Sweid was a 32-year-old IDF soldier and a member of the Druze community from the historic town of Peki'in in the Upper Galilee. His death, cleared for publication on Thursday, June 25, 2026, occurred during a period of high-intensity operational activity in the northern theater. Sweid was killed in an operational accident involving a truck rollover in the northern sector on Wednesday night. The incident, which is currently under IDF investigation, also resulted in the moderate injury of another soldier. Sweid’s service and sacrifice highlight the ongoing and critical contribution of Israel's Druze community to national security. Peki'in, his home, is known for its deep-rooted connection to the State of Israel and consistently high rates of enlistment in combat units. As a reservist, Sweid represented the thousands of Israeli citizens who maintain readiness to defend the country's northern borders against regional threats. His fall in the line of duty adds to the heavy price paid by Galilee communities during the multi-front conflict involving Hezbollah and Iranian-backed infrastructure in Lebanon. The IDF continues to investigate the technical and environmental factors that led to the fatal vehicle rollover during the mission.
