Hawara (Huwwara) is a Palestinian town located south of Nablus in Samaria. Its strategic location along Route 60, the primary north-south artery of Judea and Samaria, makes it a central transit point for thousands of Israeli residents traveling to and from communities such as Itamar, Har Bracha, and Yitzhar. Due to this proximity, the town has historically been a flashpoint for security incidents, including terror attacks against Israeli motorists and subsequent friction between local populations.
In recent years, Hawara has become a symbol of the complex security reality in the region. The town's main thoroughfare, which until recently served as the only access road for several Israeli communities, has seen numerous shooting attacks and stone-throwing incidents targeting Israeli civilians.
