Israel Defense Ministry
The Israel Defense Ministry is the government body responsible for national security, defense policy, and oversight of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It manages the defense budget, military procurement, and strategic infrastructure to ensure national resilience.
The Israel Defense Ministry (MoD) serves as the civilian administrative and strategic backbone of Israel's security establishment. While the IDF manages operational combat, the MoD is responsible for the long-term planning, procurement, and industrial development that sustain the military's qualitative edge. This includes overseeing major defense contractors, managing the national defense budget, and coordinating with international partners, most notably the United States, on joint strategic projects. In recent years, the ministry has faced the dual challenge of managing a massive increase in defense spending—seeking annual budget hikes of 40-50 billion shekels—while simultaneously accelerating the development of multi-layered missile defense systems. The ministry also plays a critical role in civil defense and national resilience, coordinating with the Home Front Command to protect civilian infrastructure and population centers. Recent developments have seen the ministry focus heavily on counter-ballistic capabilities, specifically through the Arrow system, which is designed to intercept long-range threats from the Iranian regime and its regional proxies. Additionally, the ministry has expanded its administrative reach through the establishment of the Eastern District Authority, reflecting a strategic emphasis on security and infrastructure in Judea and Samaria and along the eastern border.
