The Ministry of Defense (MoD) is the Israeli government body responsible for the nation's security, defense policy, and the oversight of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It manages the defense budget, military procurement, and strategic infrastructure, while coordinating between the political echelon and the military command to ensure national resilience.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) serves as the administrative and strategic backbone of Israel's security apparatus. While the IDF is responsible for operational execution, the MoD manages the long-term planning, funding, and industrial partnerships that sustain Israel's qualitative military edge (QME). This includes overseeing major defense contractors like Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Rafael, as well as managing the procurement of advanced systems such as the Arrow missile defense array. In recent months, the Ministry has pivoted toward addressing emerging threats on the eastern frontier. Under the leadership of Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, the MoD established the 'Eastern District Authority' to fortify the 300-kilometer border with Jordan. This initiative reflects a strategic doctrine that integrates military defense with civilian resilience, planning 40 fortified outposts to counter potential Iranian-led incursions. The Ministry also manages the sensitive interface between security needs and civilian life, including the rehabilitation of veterans and the maintenance of security zones. Beyond domestic borders, the MoD coordinates with international partners, particularly the United States, on joint defense projects and strategic planning. As Israel navigates a multi-front conflict, the Ministry's role in ensuring logistical continuity—such as ammunition stockpiles and technological readiness—remains a critical pillar of the national defense strategy.
