Muhammad Gamal Mahmoud Abu al-Shar
A Hamas cell commander who participated in the October 7, 2023, massacre at Kibbutz Be'eri and the kidnapping of six Israeli civilians; he was eliminated by the IDF in a Gaza City airstrike in October 2026.
Muhammad Gamal Mahmoud Abu al-Shar was a field commander within the Hamas terror organization, specifically serving as a cell commander. His involvement in the October 7, 2023, massacre was significant, as he was identified by Israeli intelligence as a key participant in the infiltration and subsequent atrocities committed at Kibbutz Be'eri. During the attack on the kibbutz, Abu al-Shar was directly involved in the kidnapping of six Israeli civilians, contributing to one of the most severe incidents of the initial invasion.
Following the outbreak of the war, Abu al-Shar remained active within the Gaza Strip. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), he continued to advance terror plots against Israeli forces and civilians, even during periods of operational pauses or ceasefires. His activities were characterized by the IDF as a persistent threat to Israeli security and a violation of established agreements.
On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Abu al-Shar was targeted and eliminated in a precise IAF airstrike in Gaza City. The operation was part of a broader effort to neutralize the remaining commanders and operatives responsible for the October 7 massacre. His elimination, alongside other senior operatives like Matsa'ab Abd al-Galil Sakhib Balbisi of Islamic Jihad, represents the ongoing Israeli commitment to achieving accountability for the victims of the Be'eri massacre and dismantling the command structure of Gaza-based terror factions.
