Salfit (Salfit)
Salfit (Sela'it) is an Israeli community in western Samaria, strategically positioned near the Green Line and the Sharon region. In June 2026, it became a focal point of a multi-location rolling shooting attack that targeted several communities along the seam zone.
Salfit, commonly referred to in Hebrew as Sela'it, is a residential community situated in the western hills of Samaria, overlooking the Sharon plain. Its proximity to the Green Line—the pre-1967 armistice boundary—makes it a critical point in Israel's 'seam zone' security architecture. The community is located near the Palestinian city of Qalqilya and the Israeli city of Tayibe, placing it at a sensitive friction point between sovereign Israeli territory and Judea and Samaria.
On June 7, 2026, Sela'it gained national attention during a deadly 'rolling' terror attack. The assailant, identified as Omar Yassin, an Arab-Israeli from Tayibe, conducted a series of drive-by shootings across four communities: Kochav Yair, Tzur Yitzhak, Tzur Natan, and finally Sela'it. According to security reports, Yassin murdered a civilian in his vehicle while en route to the community and subsequently opened fire at the Sela'it entrance gate. The attack was thwarted by the community's security coordinator (Ravshatz), who charged the terrorist and engaged him with gunfire, preventing further casualties within the residential area.
The incident at Sela'it underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities along the seam zone, where the lack of a continuous physical barrier in certain sectors allows for rapid movement between Palestinian and Israeli population centers. Following the attack, Hamas military spokesmen praised the operation, specifically citing the events in the Sharon and Samaria corridor as a model for escalated conflict. For the residents of Sela'it, the event highlighted the vital role of local civilian security components in the national defense array.
