Sameh Abu Kamil was a member of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organization. His involvement in the group's operational activities made him a target for Israeli security forces during the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Abu Kamil was targeted and killed in a precision drone strike conducted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while he was on Al-Jalaa Street, a major thoroughfare in Gaza City.

Following the strike, his funeral was held on Sunday, June 28, 2026. The event served as a demonstration of continued militant presence in Gaza City, as the procession included armed participants and the chanting of anti-Israel slogans. The elimination of Abu Kamil is part of the IDF's broader strategy to degrade the command and operational capabilities of Hamas's military infrastructure in northern Gaza.
