The Lead
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have located and seized a major Hezbollah UAV storage and assembly tunnel in southern Lebanon, containing approximately 50 'Ababil-T' kamikaze drones. The military stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bore direct responsibility for the construction of the facility, which was built deep beneath a mountain over the last decade.
The IDF discovery reveals a sophisticated subterranean infrastructure designed to facilitate long-range aerial attacks against Israel. The tunnel, reaching a depth of 29 meters, served as a strategic hub for Hezbollah’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations. Inside the complex, troops found a cache of roughly 50 Ababil-T kamikaze drones—a model frequently used for one-way explosive strikes—alongside other weaponry, including explosively formed penetrators (EFPs).
According to military assessments, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was directly involved in the engineering and construction of the site. The facility appears to have been developed over the past ten years, reflecting a long-term Iranian investment in Hezbollah’s offensive capabilities. This find follows previous reports of similar underground 'airbases' in southern Lebanon, such as those recently uncovered near Majdal Zoun, which featured launch shafts hidden within hillsides.
The presence of EFPs alongside the drone fleet suggests the site was also used to store advanced roadside munitions intended for use against armored vehicles. The seizure of such a significant quantity of ready-to-use kamikaze drones represents a substantial disruption to Hezbollah’s aerial strike capacity in the sector. As the IDF continues its operations in southern Lebanon, the focus remains on dismantling the extensive tunnel network that Iran and Hezbollah have integrated into the local terrain.
