The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet (ISA) confirmed the elimination of Zaki Youssef Mahmoud Abu Mustafa, a Nukhba commander within the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Khan Younis Brigade. According to military officials, Abu Mustafa was a direct participant in the October 7, 2023, infiltration of Kibbutz Nir Oz and the subsequent abduction of Yagil Yaakov. The operation, which took place in southern Gaza on Friday, also eliminated Mohammed Osama Abd al-Aziz Saba al-Eish, a Nukhba operative from Hamas.
The joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet targeted Abu Mustafa following intelligence linking him to both the October 7 massacre and ongoing efforts to restore terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The military released visual evidence documenting Abu Mustafa inside Israeli territory during the abduction of Yagil Yaakov from Kibbutz Nir Oz. ### Violations and Rebuilding Efforts According to the IDF, Abu Mustafa had been actively violating the terms of the current ceasefire by rebuilding terror capabilities and planning new attacks against Israeli forces. Intelligence reports indicate he attempted to conduct training sessions for operatives inside Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, utilizing the medical facility as a shield to avoid being targeted while managing operational activities. ### Additional Targets and Analysis In a separate precise strike, the IDF eliminated Mohammed Osama Abd al-Aziz Saba al-Eish, a Hamas Nukhba operative. Officials stated that Saba al-Eish was involved in recruiting new members and organizing training for Hamas units. The Zioneer Intelligence Desk notes that these eliminations represent a continued focus on removing field commanders who participated in the initial October 7 attacks and who now lead efforts to reconstitute armed factions under the cover of civilian or humanitarian infrastructure. The IDF Southern Command remains deployed in the area to remove immediate threats.
