i24NEWS reports that the Givati brigade commander sentenced 14 soldiers who led the rebellion at the base to 30 days imprisonment and dismissal from combat roles. Out of over 100 Sabra battalion fighters who left the base Thursday afternoon, only one has not yet returned. The brigade commander called the incident 'a serious event that has no place in the IDF, especially in the Givati Brigade.'
As of Friday midday, only one of the over 100 Givati Brigade Sabra battalion soldiers who abandoned the Sde Teiman base Thursday afternoon has not yet returned, i24NEWS reports. The near-total return follows the brigade commander's sentencing of 14 soldiers who led the rebellion to 30 days in military prison and dismissal from combat roles.
The Givati brigade commander, Col. Netanel Shmaka, sentenced the 14 leaders earlier Friday, as The Zioneer reported at 12:39 Jerusalem. The rebellion began Thursday afternoon when Sabra fighters laid down their weapons and left the base. By Thursday evening, the brigade command announced that 14 soldiers had been sentenced and that approximately 80 other soldiers who had also left the base would undergo a weekend command and educational process with their commanders. Two soldiers who reported overnight were to be judged later, and one soldier had not yet reported for trial.
As The Zioneer reported at 12:42 Jerusalem, approximately 80 additional soldiers who had left the base returned and will undergo a command and educational process to strengthen discipline. The IDF described the incident as a rebellion and initiated disciplinary proceedings against all involved. The brigade commander called the incident 'a serious event that has no place in the IDF, especially in the Givati Brigade.'
The identity of the single remaining absent soldier has not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether additional disciplinary measures will follow.
