Bar-Ilan University announced Monday it is suspending a mathematics lecturer immediately, expressing shock at acts attributed to him, as Israeli media reported. The university did not name the lecturer or detail the allegations, citing a court-ordered gag order on his identity.
The suspension follows an indictment filed earlier Monday by the State Prosecutor's Office at the Central District Court in Lod, charging the lecturer with planning a mass terror attack aimed at killing hundreds of Arab Israeli citizens, including Bedouins, as well as Arabs in East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria. According to the indictment, the suspect, a man in his 60s from Petah Tikva, formulated a detailed plan code-named 'Am Ya'aseh Transfer' (The People Will Make Transfer) over three years. The plan envisioned 72 Jewish attackers, at least half of them licensed gun owners, divided into 12 cells, armed with firearms, axes, and hammers, to carry out simultaneous mass killings in mixed cities and Arab communities across Israel. The indictment also alleges he attempted to recruit former Knesset candidate Moshe Feiglin to assist in the plot, sending him a blackmail letter and attempting to deliver it.
The suspect was arrested approximately two weeks ago. The court has imposed a gag order on his name. Bar-Ilan University said it was 'shocked' by the alleged actions and has suspended him effective immediately pending further proceedings.
The plan did not come to fruition, and no other suspects have been reported arrested. Feiglin's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
