The Tiberias Magistrate's Court on Wednesday evening extended the remand of Alon Soisa, 46, of Nesher, until next Wednesday, as reported by legal correspondent Sharon Knoblich. Soisa is suspected of impersonating a teenager, infiltrating a WhatsApp group for girls aged 8-11, and sexually harassing some of them. His attorney, Tomer Nave, denied the allegations on his behalf, stating that the suspect's response will be given only in the investigation rooms.
The development follows a day of fast-moving reports. The Zioneer first reported the arrest early Wednesday morning, at 08:52 Jerusalem, after the mother of a 10-year-old girl discovered explicit messages on her daughter's phone. By that same time, police had released footage of the arrest and media had identified the suspect as a 46-year-old man from Nesher. The court's remand extension was initially reported at 08:52, and The Zioneer confirmed the details from the courtroom at 18:38 Jerusalem, with the attorney's statement added.
The case is part of a broader pattern of online sexual harassment targeting minors in Israel. As The Zioneer reported on June 10, a Kiryat Yam man was indicted for sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl he contacted on WhatsApp. On June 16, a Ramat Gan employee was arrested for allegedly harassing a minor on Omegle. And on June 21, a Jaffa resident was prosecuted for coercing minors on Telegram for intimate images. In each case, the suspects allegedly used messaging platforms to target underage victims.
The investigation into Soisa's alleged activities continues. The remand extension allows police to continue their inquiries while the suspect remains in custody. Soisa has denied any connection to the offenses through his attorney. The next hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 15.
