According to the desk's review of battlefield accounts, after seizing the port city of Mocha, Houthi forces moved south along the coast, taking the villages of Wahiyah and Quddam, the strategic heights of Jabal al-Umari and Jabal Dhubab, the Al-Omari base, and the runway of Zubayr airport. They then entered and took full control of the coastal town of Dhubab. Further east, southwest of Taizz, the towns of Al Hasib and Al Mazaq also fell to the advancing Houthis. Fighting is ongoing for Dar Qashimiyah.
The gains place Houthi forces in close proximity to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital maritime chokepoint for global trade. As The Zioneer reported earlier today, the Houthis had captured the Al-Omari base and Zubayr airport, positioning them approximately 30 kilometers from the strait. The capture of Dhubab brings them even closer to the strategic waterway.
The rapid collapse of Saudi-aligned local forces along this axis has raised concerns about the stability of the region. The Houthi offensive, now in its second day, represents one of the most significant territorial advances by the Iran-backed group in years.
