The Houthi offensive has effectively dismantled defensive lines of the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) in southwestern Yemen over the last 24 hours.
The advance pushes Houthi forces closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical chokepoint for global maritime trade and energy shipments. The Iran-aligned group has used its coastal presence to disrupt international shipping with missiles and drones. The current fighting for Dar Qashimiyah suggests the Houthis are seeking to consolidate their hold on the southwestern coastal strip.
