The deputy commander of the IDF's 36th Division, a colonel-rank officer, was moderately wounded by an explosive device in southern Lebanon, according to a military source. A reserve battalion commander (lieutenant colonel) was also moderately wounded in the same incident. Both were evacuated for medical treatment.
The IDF confirmed early Thursday that Wednesday's blast in the Litani area wounded the deputy commander of the 36th Division (colonel) and a reserve battalion commander (lieutenant colonel) from the 556th Transportation Brigade. Both were moderately injured around 17:00 Wednesday while moving on foot; a preliminary inquiry assessed the device was enemy-placed. Artillery struck terrorist infrastructure in response.
Initial reports published Thursday at 06:00 Jerusalem identified the casualties as an officer from the division's forward command post and a reserve battalion commander. An IDF preliminary inquiry published at 06:11 detailed eight wounded in total — three moderately and five lightly — in addition to the death of Staff Sergeant (res.) Alexander Filin in the same blast. The officer who was operated on at the Galilee Medical Center is in stable condition, as The Zioneer reported at Friday 17:55. The current report upgrades the identifying detail to the division's deputy commander.
As The Zioneer has reported across separate incidents this month, senior officers continue to be targeted in Lebanon — including a Givati Reconnaissance Unit commander lightly wounded Friday June 5, and three officers wounded in two separate Hezbollah-claimed encounters that same day. Broader IDF operations against Hezbollah infrastructure along the Litani line remain ongoing.
No official claim of responsibility for Wednesday's device has been reported. The IDF said a preliminary inquiry suggests enemy placement; no further confirmation of the explosive type or trigger mechanism has been released.
