01 · THE DISPATCH

The IDF and Shin Bet have confirmed the killing of Mansour Shahtout, commander of Hamas's Naval Police for the Central Camps, and two other commanders from the same unit in a precision strike on Friday, the military announced Sunday. The announcement added that all three were armed in a vehicle at the time and posed an immediate threat to troops.

As The Zioneer reported at 11:02 and 11:06 on Sunday, the initial identification of Shahtout was followed by a fuller statement that named the two additional commanders and described the operational situation. The thread opened on Saturday at 21:16 with a bare report of three Hamas operatives killed in Al-Maghazi camp, with no commander named. Over the next several hours, the military progressively released more detail: first identifying Shahtout as a naval police commander, then naming the two other commanders, and finally detailing his full name and the date of the strike. The strike on the Hamas naval police headquarters in Khan Yunis on June 7, reported by The Zioneer on June 9, had previously signaled the military's focus on this unit.

The elimination comes amid a sustained campaign by the IDF and Shin Bet against Hamas command infrastructure in the central Gaza Strip, including previous strikes on cell commanders from the Nuseirat and Western Jabalia battalions, as reported on June 15.

No civilian casualties have been reported from this strike, and the military has not clarified whether it was a ground or aerial operation. Shahtout's precise role in recent terror plots — which the military says he was advancing — has not been detailed. The full identities and roles of the two additional commanders killed alongside him have not been released.
