Initial reports described a targeted strike on a motorcyclist in western Gaza City, identifying the target as a senior Hamas operative. Hamas later confirmed the death of Farah Hamed, a senior figure in its military wing. Over the course of the evening, it emerged that Hamed was the same terrorist who murdered MK Limor Son Har-Melech's husband in 2003. Hamed had been imprisoned for the murder but was released in the 2011 Shalit prisoner exchange and deported to Gaza, where he resumed terror activity.
Hamed's elimination brings closure to one of the most painful terror attacks in the Judea and Samaria area. The case had been open for 23 years. MK Limor Son Har-Melech, who was wounded in the attack while pregnant, survived and entered politics, advocating for stricter measures against terrorists.
