Earlier Saturday, at 20:38 Jerusalem time, The Zioneer reported that reservists of the 551st Brigade, operating under the 91st Division, identified an armed Hezbollah operative in the same area. The IDF initially stated the operative was killed after troops opened fire and a pursuit. The latest bulletin adds the explicit framing that the operative was violating the ceasefire, a detail not present in the initial version.
This incident is the latest in a series of similar eliminations in southern Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect. As The Zioneer reported on June 30, the IDF eliminated a Hezbollah operative in the Al-Manzala area, and on June 15, operatives approaching troops in a vehicle were eliminated. The IDF also reported that over 20 terrorists were eliminated in southern Lebanon over the two weeks prior to June 10.
It remains unclear whether the operative was acting on Hezbollah orders or independently. No group has claimed responsibility for the attempted approach. The IDF's statement did not specify the type of weapon the terrorist was carrying or whether any weapon was recovered at the scene.
