The IDF says reservists of the 551st Brigade identified an armed Hezbollah operative near Israeli forces in the Majdal Zoun area, inside Israel's buffer zone in southern Lebanon. Troops opened fire and, following a pursuit, killed the operative. No Israeli forces were harmed, according to the military.
The IDF confirmed Saturday evening at 20:43 Jerusalem that reservists of the 551st Brigade killed an armed Hezbollah operative in the Majdal Zoun area, inside Israel's buffer zone in southern Lebanon. The military said troops identified the operative near Israeli forces and opened fire, then pursued and eliminated him. No Israeli forces were harmed.
The confirmation updates an earlier report at 20:38 Jerusalem, which stated that an armed militant was killed after a manhunt south of Majdal Zoun but did not specify the unit or the militant's affiliation. Minutes later, at 20:39 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that the forces were from the 551st Brigade under the 91st Division. The current disclosure adds that the operative was a Hezbollah member and that the troops were reservists.
The Zioneer has previously reported on multiple IDF operations in southern Lebanon, including a fatal clash on June 28 in which an IDF soldier was killed during an ambush, and several other eliminations of Hezbollah operatives in the weeks since. The buffer zone, established after the 2024 ceasefire, prohibits Hezbollah presence near the border. The IDF says it is committed to enforcing the agreement.
The IDF has not released further details about the operative's identity or whether he was acting alone. The incident underscores continued tensions along the border despite the ceasefire.
