Security forces are now investigating whether the weapons seized from an IDF reservist in Netivot were taken during the October 7, 2023 attacks, The Zioneer has learned. The probe was announced by authorities earlier this morning, after The Zioneer reported at 09:06 Jerusalem that the suspect was arrested and a Kalashnikov, a sniper rifle, and a large quantity of ammunition were found in his home. The case has been flagged as a serious suspicion.
The arrest was first reported by The Zioneer at 09:06 Jerusalem, after police and the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID) detained the active reservist in a joint operation. By 08:42 Jerusalem, police had issued a joint police-IDF statement confirming the seizure. The suspect's name has not been released, and no charges have been filed. His detention is expected to be extended as the investigation continues.
The Zioneer reported on June 30 that police seized over 800 military rounds and weapon parts in Ramla, and on July 2 that a cache of weapons was uncovered in Kafr Kanna. Similar seizures were reported in Shaab (June 23) and Nahaf (June 18), though authorities have not linked these cases to the Netivot arrest.
It remains unclear whether the weapons from the October 7 attacks are being recovered through this arrest or whether the investigation will widen to include other suspects. No connection has been established between this case and other recent arms seizures reported across Israel.
