Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday evening that Tehran is considering having the memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States. He also stated that continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese lands constitutes a violation of the MoU and that necessary steps will be taken, according to Abu Ali Express.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson raised the prospect of a presidential-level signing of the emerging US-Iran memorandum of understanding, in a statement Wednesday evening (21:20 Jerusalem). The official added that Iran will cooperate with Oman on establishing a mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz, and will hold consultations with other regional states as needed.
The statement reiterated Tehran's position that continued Israeli military presence in southern Lebanon — described as "occupation of Lebanese lands" — amounts to a breach of the MoU, and that Iran will take necessary steps in response.
The announcement follows a series of Iranian warnings over the past week regarding the MoU. As The Zioneer reported Wednesday at 20:59, Iran's Foreign Ministry warned that IDF operations in southern Lebanon would be considered a violation. Earlier this week, on Tuesday (14:57 Jerusalem), Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said any Israeli strike on Lebanon or remaining in occupied lands breaches the understanding. A senior Iranian official told DropSite News on Sunday (01:44 Jerusalem) that two issues remain open before the deal can be signed swiftly.
The comments come amid ongoing Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and diplomatic efforts to stabilize the ceasefire. The details of Iran's cooperation with Oman on the Hormuz management mechanism have not been disclosed.
