TL;DR

The Iranian regime's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims to have attacked American ships, according to state-affiliated reports. Regime mouthpieces additionally allege an exchange of fire is underway between US and Iranian forces at sea. The reports come from Iranian state channels with no independent verification. The claim follows a night of prior IRGC assertions of attacks on the US Fifth Fleet.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Iranian regime-affiliated sources claimed on Tuesday evening that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked American warships at sea. One state-associated outlet stated that the IRGC struck US vessels, while another alleged an ongoing exchange of fire between Iranian and American naval forces. This latest development specifically asserts that the target was American warships, not unspecified vessels—a more precise claim than earlier reports.

This is the latest in a string of IRGC claims against US assets this evening. As The Zioneer reported at 21:59 UTC, Iran's Mehr News Agency first reported an exchange of fire between IRGC and US forces, with the Iranian military's Khatam Al-Anbiyaa Central Command expected to issue a statement. At 22:11 UTC, a separate report from the same channels claimed the IRGC was striking with missiles the ships that had attacked Iran. A further report at 22:12 UTC again cited Mehr on an exchange of fire with a pending statement. The claims have thus evolved from a vague "exchange of fire" to a specific missile attack, and now to a direct assertion of targeting American warships—all from Iranian state-affiliated sources, with no independent corroboration.

The reports remain entirely unverified. No details on the types of vessels involved, the location of the engagement, casualties, or damage have been provided. US Central Command has not yet commented on the latest claims. These assertions come amid several days of escalating rhetoric and military posturing in the Gulf corridor—including, as The Zioneer reported on June 5, IRGC warning shots at US warships in the Gulf of Oman, and, on June 9, reported strikes on IRGC radar and air defense sites near the Strait of Hormuz.
