MK Zvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism) paid a surprise visit to the Nur al-Huda school in the Shuafat neighborhood of Jerusalem on Monday morning, confronting the principal over reported links to Hamas and a charity designated as a terror organization. Sukkot demanded the school be shut down, saying a child educated in a Hamas school becomes the terrorist of tomorrow.
MK Zvi Sukkot, chairman of the Knesset Education Committee, conducted a surprise inspection at the Nur al-Huda school in Jerusalem's Shuafat neighborhood on Monday morning, after revelations by the Hakol Hayehudi website linked the institution to the Hamas-affiliated charity Zakat al-Quds. Sukkot confronted the school's principal, Hamza Qaysi, presenting documentation showing Qaysi raising funds for an organization that Israel's courts have designated as linked to Hamas. Qaysi fled into the school grounds, according to the report. The school was reportedly built with donations raised by Hamas-affiliated figures.
Sukkot announced he will demand the Education and Defense ministries examine all interactions with the institution and ensure no public funds reach institutions tied to terror groups. Hakol Hayehudi said it had warned the Education Ministry about alleged Hamas-linked schools in Jerusalem for four years without response.
As The Zioneer previously reported, a USAID inquiry in June identified 101 UNRWA staffers as Hamas operatives involved in the October 7 massacre, illustrating the broader issue of terrorist infiltration into nominally civilian educational institutions. Sukkot's visit comes amid ongoing Knesset oversight efforts over eastern Jerusalem's Arab education system.
