A new Pew Research Center poll published Friday provides a detailed snapshot of American public opinion on Israel and the Palestinians across religious and ethnic groups. The survey finds that 47% of American Muslims support Hamas, and approximately half support the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria. Evangelical Protestants remain the most pro-Israel demographic, with 60% supporting the Israeli government, consistent with a Pew survey from April 2025 that found 58% of white evangelical Protestants believed Prime Minister Netanyahu would make the right political decisions.
The poll also reveals that nearly half of American Jews (47%) hold negative views of the Israeli government, a finding the survey's analysts attribute to ideological opposition to Netanyahu and concerns that the Israeli government destabilizes the global Jewish community.
The findings come amid a series of recent polls that have tracked shifting American attitudes toward Israel. As The Zioneer reported on June 26, a Quinnipiac University poll found 48% of US voters believe Washington is too supportive of Israel, the highest percentage in a decade. A July 7 survey found 30% of Americans believe Israel is guilty of genocide. Another poll from the Israel Democracy Institute in July showed that only 28% of Israelis believe President Trump prioritizes Israel's security, a record low.
The new Pew poll underscores the deep partisan and demographic divisions in American views of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with evangelical Christians and Muslim Americans on opposite ends of the spectrum, and American Jews increasingly critical of the current Israeli government.
