Police arrested a driver from the Shuafat camp after he allegedly stole a car and attempted to breach the Hizma checkpoint north of Jerusalem. Three illegal entrants were also found in the vehicle. A Border Police officer was lightly wounded during the operation and evacuated for treatment, police said.
Police said a driver from the Shuafat refugee camp stole a car and then tried to force his way through the Hizma checkpoint north of Jerusalem on Tuesday evening. Inside the vehicle, officers found three illegal entrants. During the arrest, a Border Police fighter was lightly wounded and taken for medical treatment. The suspect was apprehended at the scene.
The incident is the latest in a string of attempts to breach checkpoints around Jerusalem and the West Bank involving stolen vehicles and illegal entrants. As The Zioneer reported earlier Tuesday evening, a separate vehicle earlier tried to breach the same Hizma checkpoint with suspected infiltrators aboard.
