Dr. Assaf Miller, director of the general ICU, provided the update. One soldier regained consciousness, while the other three remain sedated and ventilated, according to the hospital.
The soldiers were wounded when an explosive device detonated as their unit entered a booby-trapped building in the village of Majdal Zoun. The blast killed Maj. (res.) Harel Birenstock and Chief Master Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin. Channel 14 journalist Ido Tauber named the four wounded soldiers in a broadcast: Yitbarek Ben Dasta, Yedidya Ben Yael, Dolev Ben Atara, and Eitan Ben Leah Bracha. Their families have been notified.
The incident is the first fatal attack on Israeli forces since the June ceasefire with Hezbollah. The IDF is investigating whether the explosives were planted before or after the truce took effect. The military responded with airstrikes and artillery on Hezbollah targets in the area following the blast.
