The soldiers were wounded in an IED blast that occurred on Wednesday around 12:00 in the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon. The explosion, which occurred as troops from the 55th Paratroopers Reserve Brigade entered a booby-trapped building, killed Maj. (res.) Harel Birenstock and Chief Master Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin. The incident marked the first Israeli military fatalities since the June ceasefire with Hezbollah, as The Zioneer reported.
Israeli authorities are still investigating whether the explosives were placed before the ceasefire or after it, as a violation of the truce.
