Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan sent an urgent letter Friday morning to IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, calling for the immediate cancellation of planned cuts to the community defense reserve force (Hagmar/HaGmar) that protects Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. Dagan warned that the reduction would create significant operational gaps in the field and directly undermine the security envelope for towns and roads in the region.
Dagan's appeal follows recent reports that security coordinators in Judea and Samaria were instructed to prepare for the cancellation of reserve-force standards for community defense fighters — a move that would leave communities more heavily dependent on regular army brigades. As The Zioneer reported on June 30, the change would thin what has been described as a critical security buffer in place since October 7. Dagan's letter marks the most direct call from a local leader to the military chief to reverse the plan.
The status of the planned cuts remains unconfirmed by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit as of Friday morning. Zamir has not yet publicly responded to Dagan's letter.
