01 · THE DISPATCH

A traveler returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo is in stable condition at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa under suspicion of Ebola, Israeli health officials reported Saturday evening. The patient developed fever and headache and is isolated in a designated facility; blood samples have been sent for testing, with results expected within 24 hours. Health officials caution that symptoms may also indicate other common African illnesses such as malaria.

This is the fourth suspected Ebola case reported in Israel over the past three days, all involving travelers from the DRC. The previous three were first reported by The Zioneer in a series of bulletins: the first at 00:05 Jerusalem Saturday (a patient in isolation with no condition details), the second at 07:03 Jerusalem Saturday (a third traveler isolated), and the third at 18:41 Jerusalem Saturday (decontamination at Rambam after transfer). No confirmed cases have emerged; each case has been accompanied by health authority cautions that Ebola is not yet confirmed.

The Zioneer reported on June 7 that the Health Ministry had warned against non-essential travel to Uganda and the DRC and was preparing for possible Ebola arrival, including distributing protective equipment. On June 12, a United Airlines flight with a possible Ebola case landed in the US. All suspected cases in Israel remain unconfirmed.

Test results for the current patient and the previous suspected cases are still pending; no virus has been confirmed. Health authorities emphasize that symptoms like fever and headache are consistent with other illnesses common in Africa.
