Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon
Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon (1994–2026) was a senior IDF armored commander who served as the commander of the 401st Brigade's 52nd Battalion. He was killed in action in southern Lebanon in June 2026.
Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon was a prominent field commander in the Israel Defense Forces, specifically within the 401st Armored Brigade ("Iron Tracks"). A resident of Kibbutz Beit HaShita, Ben Simhon spent the majority of his military career within the armored corps, rising through the ranks to lead the 52nd Battalion during one of the most intensive periods of conflict on Israel's northern front.
Ben Simhon assumed command of the 52nd Battalion on April 20, 2026, under extraordinary circumstances. He stepped into the role just one week after his predecessor, Lt. Col. 'A', was severely wounded during heavy fighting in Bint Jbeil. His leadership was defined by his immediate entry into high-intensity maneuvering operations in southern Lebanon, where the 401st Brigade was tasked with dismantling Hezbollah's entrenched infrastructure and tunnel networks. Prior to this command, he served in several key positions, including as the Chief of Staff to the Head of Northern Command during Operation 'Arrows of the North' until August 2025.
On the night of June 19, 2026, at approximately 00:20, Lt. Col. Ben Simhon was killed when his command tank was struck by a Hezbollah munition—assessed by preliminary investigations to be an explosive drone—near the village of Tebnine (Tafnine). Three other members of his tank crew fell alongside him. His death marked a significant loss for the 401st Brigade, a unit where his family had deep roots; four of his brothers also served in the same brigade, while a fifth served in the Golani Brigade. He is survived by his wife, herself a combat officer, and their two daughters. His legacy is one of rapid transition from staff roles to the front lines, embodying the IDF's 'security-first' leadership model during multi-front warfare.
