Iranian Ministry of Defense
The Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) is the government body responsible for the production, procurement, and logistical support of Iran's military branches, including the IRGC and the Artesh.
The Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) serves as the industrial and administrative backbone of the Islamic Republic's military apparatus. Unlike the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) or the regular army (Artesh), which are operational combat forces, MODAFL focuses on the development of military technology, the management of defense industries, and the procurement of hardware. It oversees major state-owned conglomerates such as the Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) and the Defense Industries Organization (DIO), which are central to Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs.
For Israel and the broader Middle East, the Ministry is a critical entity due to its role in advancing Iran's asymmetric warfare capabilities. It is the primary vehicle for bypassing international sanctions to acquire dual-use technologies and for exporting Iranian weaponry to regional proxies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. The Ministry's facilities, such as those in Karaj and Parchin, have frequently been the focus of international intelligence scrutiny and reported sabotage operations attributed to efforts to curb Iran's nuclear and conventional military expansion.
Recently, the Ministry has adopted a dual-track rhetoric of 'diplomatic readiness' coupled with threats of 'great military force.' This posture aims to project national resilience while maintaining the technical capacity to escalate. As Iran continues to modernize its arsenal, MODAFL remains the central hub for the research and development of the precision-guided munitions and long-range systems that define the current security threat to Israeli sovereignty.
