Northern Israel
Northern Israel is a strategic region encompassing the Galilee, Haifa Bay, and the Golan Heights, currently serving as the primary theater of direct confrontation between the IDF and the Iranian-led axis.
Northern Israel is defined by its strategic depth and its proximity to the Lebanese and Syrian borders. The region includes major population centers such as Haifa, Kiryat Shmona, and Safed, alongside dozens of agricultural and communal settlements. Since October 2023, the area has been under persistent threat from Hezbollah's rocket, drone, and anti-tank missile arrays, resulting in the displacement of tens of thousands of Israeli civilians and significant damage to local infrastructure. In June 2026, the security situation escalated from proxy-led attrition to direct state-on-state confrontation. On June 7-8, 2026, the region faced a massive wave of sirens extending from the northern border deep into central Israel. This escalation followed a lethal barrage from Lebanon that killed two people and wounded 11 others. In response, the IDF intensified offensive maneuvers in southern Lebanon, while Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched 'Operation Nasr' (Victory), targeting Israeli airbases including Nevatim and Tel Nof with direct ballistic missile strikes. Interceptions of these Iranian munitions caused multiple fires in open areas across the Galilee and Golan Heights. Consequently, the Ziv Medical Center in Safed transitioned to full emergency mode, relocating departments to protected spaces and canceling elective procedures. The IDF has since initiated a wave of retaliatory airstrikes against strategic assets inside Iranian territory, marking a new phase of high-intensity kinetic warfare.
