Sela'it is a residential community positioned on the strategic seam between the Samaria hills and the coastal Sharon plain. Geographically, it sits just east of the Green Line, making it a focal point for security considerations regarding the transition between Judea and Samaria and sovereign Israeli territory. The community is part of a cluster of towns including Tzur Natan, Tzur Yitzhak, and Kochav Yair, which together form a populated corridor along the seam zone. On June 7, 2026, Sela'it gained significant attention following a nationalist terror attack. A gunman in a vehicle, later identified as Omar Mander Yassin from Tayibe, carried out a rolling shooting operation across four distinct locations in the region. According to reports from the Zioneer Intelligence Desk, the attack involved gunfire at a gas station near Kochav Yair before moving toward Tzur Yitzhak and the road connecting Tzur Natan and Sela'it. During the incident, a security guard at Sela'it reported being fired upon from a gray Toyota Corolla. The community's security coordinator (Ravshatz) reportedly engaged the assailant, drawing his weapon and firing as the attacker attempted to flee. The broader incident resulted in one fatality and five injuries across the various scenes, with injuries ranging from moderate to critical. Security forces eventually neutralized the primary attacker in the Tayibe quarry area. The event underscored the ongoing security challenges facing seam-zone communities, where proximity to both Palestinian population centers in Samaria and Israeli urban centers in the Sharon creates a high-friction environment. Sela'it's position necessitates constant coordination between local civilian response teams and the IDF's Ephraim Brigade to secure the perimeter and the connecting transit routes.
