Tayibe is a major Arab-Israeli city in the Central District of Israel, located in the Sharon region along the Green Line. Tayibe is situated in the eastern Sharon plain, approximately 12 kilometers northeast of Kfar Saba. As one of the largest cities in the 'Triangle'—a concentration of Arab-Israeli towns and villages adjacent to the Green Line—it serves as a commercial and social hub for the region. Its proximity to the seam zone and the Palestinian city of Qalqilya grants it strategic importance in the context of Israeli internal security and border management. In June 2026, Tayibe became central to a major security escalation. Following a multi-site rolling shooting attack that targeted communities including Kochav Yair, Tzur Yitzhak, Tzur Natan, and Sela'it, security forces identified the primary perpetrator as Amer Mender Yassin, a 21-year-old Israeli citizen residing in Tayibe. Yassin reportedly opened fire from a vehicle with Israeli license plates before being pursued by police to the quarry area of Tayibe, where he was neutralized. This development prompted intensive operations in the city, including raids on the suspect's residence and the arrest of an alleged accomplice who reportedly attempted to stab officers during the raid. The Regavim movement has pointed to illegal construction expanding from Tayibe toward Judea and Samaria as a factor creating security vulnerabilities in the seam zone. While local leadership, including Deputy Mayor Abd Jabr, has condemned the violence and emphasized the city's commitment to neighborly relations, the incident has intensified the security focus on the Sharon region's internal border.
