IDF Chief of Staff salutes 401st Brigade's resilience in southern Lebanon after heavy losses

A Salute to Resilience

During his visit to the 401st Armored Brigade's sector in southern Lebanon on Sunday, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir directly addressed the heavy toll the unit has paid in recent engagements. "I salute you," Zamir told the brigade's commanders. "The brigade proves strength and resilience in the face of the losses it has sustained throughout the war. You cannot stop the 401st Brigade. This is your spirit, this is the spirit of the IDF."

The Chief of Staff's visit comes at a critical juncture for the brigade, which has been at the forefront of armored maneuvers in the northern theater. The 401st has faced intense combat as the IDF works to maintain a strategic security zone and dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure bordering northern Israel.

Honoring the Fallen

Following the operational briefing, Zamir visited the home of the family of Lt. Col. Dor Ben-Shimhon z"l, the commander of the 52nd Battalion who fell in battle in southern Lebanon. The visit highlighted the deeply personal nature of the losses within the brigade's leadership. Zamir spoke with Ben-Shimhon's parents and his widow, Ariel—who herself serves as an officer in the Northern Command—as well as his five brothers, all of whom are combatants.

This personal outreach follows a recent morale letter issued by the 52nd Battalion's deputy commander, which emphasized that despite the loss of their battalion commander and three other soldiers, the mission remains unchanged. The Chief of Staff's presence in the field reinforces this command philosophy of continuity and national resilience.
