Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a situational assessment with the 401st Armored Brigade in southern Lebanon on Sunday, and then visited the bereaved family of Lt. Col. Dor Ben Simhon, the 52nd Battalion commander killed in action. Zamir spoke with the officer's parents, widow, and five warrior brothers.
Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the 401st Armored Brigade in southern Lebanon on Sunday morning for a situational assessment, a routine command visit to the front where the brigade has been operating against Hezbollah infrastructure since the war's northern expansion. Later, Zamir traveled to the home of Lt. Col. Dor Ben Simhon, the 52nd Battalion commander who was killed in action in southern Lebanon earlier this week.
Ben Simhon fell alongside three soldiers from his crew during a tank engagement near Nabatieh on Thursday night, as The Zioneer reported on Friday. He had assumed command of the battalion after his predecessor was severely wounded in earlier combat. His widow, Ariel Biton Ben Shimon—who serves as an officer in Northern Command—published a moving eulogy on Saturday morning. The brigade's deputy commander sent a morale letter to troops on Sunday emphasizing continuity: "The mission continues."
Zamir spoke with Ben Simhon's parents, his widow, and his five siblings—all serving warriors. The chief of staff expressed condolences and sought to strengthen the family in their difficult hour. The visit underscores the IDF's tradition of senior commanders personally sharing in the mourning of fallen soldiers' families.
