The Central District State Prosecutor's Office filed indictments on Thursday against three Israeli citizens accused of aiding the June 7 multi-site terror attack in the Sharon region. The attack, carried out by Omer Monder Yassin, resulted in the death of Haim Kalomiti and wounded several others across Kochav Yair, Tzur Yitzhak, and Sela'it.
Following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Israel Police's YALP Sharon unit, authorities have moved to prosecute three individuals for their alleged roles in the June 7 terror spree. The primary suspect in the support network, Muhamad Aftima of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, is accused of supplying the Carlo-type firearm used by the attacker to carry out the shootings. Two other suspects, Alaa Eddin Jeheim and Wam Mazarwa, both residents of Taibeh, are charged with having prior knowledge of the attacker's intentions without taking action to prevent the incident.
Context of the Attack
The underlying attack occurred on June 7, 2026, when Omer Monder Yassin, a 21-year-old Israeli citizen from Taibeh, opened fire at multiple locations near the Green Line. The victim, Haim Kalomiti, was a 55-year-old resident of Tzur Natan and a member of the local emergency response team (kitat konenut) who was killed in the line of duty. The attacker was neutralized by police in Taibeh following a brief pursuit. This case highlights the ongoing security challenge posed by illegal weaponry and the radicalization of individuals within sovereign Israeli territory.
Legal and Security Implications
The indictments were filed at the Lod District Court. Security officials emphasized the severity of Israeli citizens' involvement in activities that endanger national security. The investigation revealed details of the attacker's conduct in the days leading up to the shooting, suggesting a level of premeditation that the suspects were allegedly aware of. The Shin Bet and Israel Police stated they would continue to use all available means to prosecute those involved in security offenses and the trade of illegal arms, which they describe as a direct threat to the personal safety of all citizens.
