Lebanese sources report that Ahmad Asili was killed in an Israeli drone strike earlier today near the village of Kafr Rumman in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon. The target's affiliation was not disclosed in the initial reports.
Lebanese sources reported Wednesday evening that Ahmad Asili was killed in an Israeli drone strike in the area of Kafr Rumman, Nabatieh district, southern Lebanon. The identification of the target came hours after our initial reports at 16:14 Jerusalem that a vehicle had been struck near Kafr Rumman, killing two people, and as a separate drone strike near Nabatieh al-Fawqa in the same district had been reported at 16:43 Jerusalem, also killing two.
At 16:14 Jerusalem, The Zioneer first reported, citing Lebanon's National News Agency, that an Israeli airstrike had hit a car near Kafr Rumman, killing two; the target's affiliation was then unconfirmed. By 16:51 Jerusalem, we published a broader article linking that strike to a vehicle targeted near Kafr Rumman as part of security operations in the Nabatieh district. Separately, a bulletin at 16:43 Jerusalem reported that two people had been killed by a drone near Nabatieh al-Fawqa, in the same area. The two sets of reports — both describing two killed near Kafr Rumman at roughly the same hour — may describe the same event. Lebanese sources now specify that one of the two killed in the Kafr Rumman strike was Ahmad Asili, but his affiliation remains undisclosed.
As The Zioneer has reported since mid-June, Israeli drone strikes in southern Lebanon have targeted vehicles on roads in the Nabatieh Governorate with increasing frequency. On Saturday, June 20, a Lebanese Army soldier was killed in such a strike near Nabatieh; on Thursday, June 18, strikes in Tibnin and Zboudine each killed one person; and a strike on Sunday, June 14, killed one and wounded another in Wadi al-Masila. The IDF has not commented on today's strike.
The precise affiliation of Ahmad Asili — whether Hezbollah operative, Lebanese military personnel, or other — has not been confirmed by any official source. It also remains unclear whether the drone strike near Nabatieh al-Fawqa at 16:43 Jerusalem was a separate incident or part of the same operation that killed Asili.
