IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the scene of Friday's deadly terror attack near the village of Tel in Samaria on Friday evening, ordering troop reinforcements and approving plans for continued counterterrorism operations, according to the IDF. The visit, which included a situational assessment and initial debriefing with senior commanders, follows the morning attack that killed MSG (Res.) Benyahu Melet and MAJ Yuval Ezra and wounded several others. Zamir stated: 'We are pursuing every terrorist involved in this attack. We will reach all of them and hold them accountable.'
The attack unfolded earlier Friday. At 13:41 Jerusalem, the IDF ordered all Central Command soldiers to remain on base and prepared a large-scale operation, as The Zioneer reported. By 16:51 Jerusalem, the IDF confirmed that all terrorists involved had been identified, and Central Command chief MG Avi Bluth stated that the four Palestinians killed at the scene were terrorists and that a major operation was underway. At the same time, Zamir visited the scene for the first time, vowing to 'settle accounts.' By 18:10 Jerusalem, the IDF and Shin Bet arrested two of the terrorists in Shechem, with the weapon recovered, according to The Zioneer's earlier bulletin.
The attack occurred amid a heightened security alert across Judea and Samaria. The Zioneer previously reported on the multi-front pressures facing the IDF, including operations in Gaza and a strike in Beirut, with Zamir overseeing simultaneous assessments. Friday's visit underscores the military's focus on preventing escalation in the West Bank, with Zamir noting that battalions have carried out 'impressive and thorough offensive operations' in recent months.
The IDF said the operation to capture the remaining terrorists continues. Four assailants were neutralized at the scene, but the pursuit of any additional accomplices remains ongoing. The IDF, Israel Police, and ISA are coordinating to maintain order, Zamir said.
