01 · THE DISPATCH

The IDF confirmed Sunday morning that a strike last week in the Al-Shati area eliminated Abd al-Rahman Maher Abd al-Karim Ziyada, a Hamas Nukhba cell commander. According to the military, Ziyada infiltrated Israeli territory on October 7, looted an IDF vehicle, and drove it into Gaza. The announcement, which named Ziyada and provided his biographical details, came at 09:07 Jerusalem — the same time as the military's initial statement on the operation, which had already identified the commander.

The elimination was first reported at 09:07 Jerusalem, when multiple updates from the IDF named Ziyada as the Nukhba commander killed. Over the course of the morning, the military progressively refined the information: initial reports cited an Israeli media outlet (Abu Ali Express) on the strike; by 09:07, the IDF had officially confirmed the identity and added that the same operation also killed Kamal Muhammad Hamdan Najjar, head of the Hamas tunnel unit in Khan Younis. By 10:02 Jerusalem, The Zioneer published an article with full details, including that Ziyada was filmed celebrating near a burning tank on October 7.

The strike extends the IDF's sustained campaign against perpetrators of the October 7 attacks who have remained in Gaza, as The Zioneer has previously reported. Earlier this week, the military eliminated Akram Abu Mazi, another October 7 infiltrator who was rebuilding terror capabilities (The Zioneer, Wed Jun 24, 21:08 Jerusalem). In recent weeks, the IDF and Shin Bet also killed Sakr Abu Karim, a Nukhba commander who led the infiltration into Kisufim on October 7 (The Zioneer, Sun Jun 7, 12:27 Jerusalem).

The military did not report any civilian casualties from the strike in Al-Shati. It remains unclear when exactly last week the strike took place; the IDF has not specified the day or time of the operation.
