The head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa, ordered the formal release of Lt. Col. Aleph, the Gaza Division intelligence officer whose failures contributed to the October 7, 2023 attack, following a military committee recommendation. The dismissal concludes months of legal proceedings, including a rejected petition by the officer and a court ruling that the process was lawful. Aleph may appeal the decision to Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa, head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, today ordered the formal dismissal of Lt. Col. Aleph, the Gaza Division intelligence officer who served during the October 7, 2023 attack, following an advisory committee's recommendation and a court ruling that cleared the way for the move.
Earlier today at 19:00 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that the Administrative Court had rejected the officer's petition challenging the dismissal, affirming the military's authority to terminate his service. The IDF then convened an advisory committee, which recommended the dismissal. Bar Kalifa's order now implements that recommendation, concluding a months-long legal battle. The officer, identified only by his first initial due to a court-ordered gag order, may appeal the decision to Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
The dismissal is part of the IDF's broader accountability process following the deadliest attack on Israel. Chief of Staff Zamir announced in November 2025 that several senior officers would be dismissed over the October 7 failures, including Aleph. The officer fought the dismissal through a legal petition that temporarily blocked the process. As The Zioneer reported, his identity remains barred from publication pending a petition to the High Court.
The officer may still appeal the decision to the Chief of Staff, and his name remains under a publication ban.
