The IDF on Saturday evening cleared for publication the name of Staff Sgt. Nir Ben Ari, 21, from Kerem Maharal, a Maglan unit commando in the Commando Brigade, as the second fatality from a combat incident in southern Lebanon earlier Saturday.
According to an IDF statement and additional reports from military correspondents, the incident occurred around 01:30 Saturday near the village of Tibnit in southern Lebanon. A Commando Brigade force was struck by mortar (פצמ״ר) fire and an explosive drone (רחפן נפץ). Ben Ari was killed; two soldiers were seriously wounded, one moderately, and 10 lightly. All were evacuated for medical treatment.
As The Zioneer reported earlier Saturday, the incident is separate from another fatal event that occurred Thursday night, in which four soldiers from the 52nd Battalion — including the battalion commander, Lt. Col. Dor Gadelia Ben Shimon, and Staff Sgt. Yoav Klein — were killed. The IDF has approved the names of both Klein and Ben Ari for publication; the names of two additional soldiers killed in Klein's incident have not yet been cleared.
