The IDF and Shin Bet released additional details Friday regarding Izz al-Din Beek, the commander of Hamas's northern brigade eliminated this week. Security officials confirmed that Beek directly commanded the holding of several Israeli hostages, including Mia Shem, Hisam A-Sayed, and others who were murdered in captivity.
The IDF and Shin Bet revealed Friday morning that Izz al-Din Beek, the Hamas northern brigade commander eliminated earlier this week in Gaza, directly commanded the captivity of 15 named Israeli hostages during the war. Among those held under his authority were Mia Shem, Hisam A-Sayed, Amit Buskila, and several others who were killed in captivity, including Nick Beizer, Ron Sherman, and Elia Toledano. Beek, who participated in the October 7, 2023, infiltration and was a founder of the Nukhba force in northern Gaza, was eliminated in an IDF strike earlier this week.
The joint statement by the military and security agency, released at 08:04 Jerusalem, constitutes a disclosure following extended intelligence investigation. The Zioneer first reported at 08:05 Jerusalem that Beek was eliminated and was responsible for holding 15 hostages, with the full list published in subsequent updates. The security agencies described the elimination as a significant closure, vowing to continue targeting those involved in the Oct. 7 massacre.
The revelation continues a pattern in which Israeli security agencies document and publicize the roles of eliminated Hamas commanders in hostage affairs. Similar disclosures have been made in recent months regarding commanders such as Muhammad Ghabayin and Muhammad Jundiya, who were also confirmed to have held Israeli captives.
