Director Uri Kedar said in a statement: "No Haredi deserter will receive immunity, no shirker will sleep soundly while hundreds of thousands of Israelis serve in the war and millions cannot sleep at night for fear of their loved ones serving at the front. In Israel there will not be a class of servers and a class that has servants. The time for equality has come."
The High Court's decision, issued on September 3, followed months of legal and political tension. The Knesset's legal advisor and the Attorney General had both argued that the law was unconstitutional. The court ruled that the legislation created an illegal inequality between those who serve in the IDF and those who do not, particularly in the post-October 7 security reality. The Israel Free Movement was one of several civil organizations that petitioned against the law.
